It's a hit...over the head! Pittsburgh’s South Hills Catholic HS (now Seton-La Salle HS) staged a play entitled “The Desperate Hours”, which proved to be a show-stopper...literally. On opening night, one of the fleeing “convicts” failed to properly simulate hitting a victim over the head with a pistol, thus unexpectedly delaying the play for twenty nervous minutes as attendants quickly treated a three-inch scalp laceration.

From St. Joseph’s Novitiate at Barrytown (NY), which for decades partially sustained itself because of its farm:

“The last of the animal farm—the chickens—have been disposed of because of their lack of cooperation; they did not lay a sufficient number of eggs to justify their existence…..There has been much activity in the Mansion cellar these days killing chickens by the hundreds. We claim to have the best chicken pluckers in the Hudson Valley.”

Thanksgiving 1959

De La Salle College (Washington, D.C.) hosted the Junior Novices of the Baltimore District (from nearby Ammendale) during the Thanksgiving weekend and entertained them with dinner and movies.
