December 1959 Pennsylvania Governor David L. Lawrence, whose two (of three) sons had been students at Central Catholic HS in Pittsburgh, addressed a large gathering of loyal supporters of La Salle College and praised the Christian Brothers as educators.(Newsbriefs, December 1959)
December 1959It's a hit...over the head! Pittsburgh’s South Hills Catholic HS (now Seton-La Salle HS) staged a play entitled “The Desperate Hours”, which proved to be a show-stopper...literally. On opening night, one of the fleeing “convicts” failed to properly simulate hitting a victim over the head with a pistol, thus unexpectedly delaying the play for twenty nervous minutes as attendants quickly treated a three-inch scalp laceration.

Christmas Day 1959The first Masses to be celebrated in the completed chapel at the new Novitiate building at Narragansett (RI) were on Christmas day.

December 1959 Brother Charles Henry (Buttimer), the Visitor of the Long Island-New England District, came to the Novitiate at Barrytown (NY) and heard the redditions of the LI-NE Novices there. Thanksgiving 1959
De La Salle College (Washington, D.C.) hosted the Junior Novices of the Baltimore District (from nearby Ammendale) during the Thanksgiving weekend and entertained them with dinner and movies.

December 31, 1959 The Toronto District is comprised 234 Brothers (170 of whom were in Final Vows), 20 Student Brothers, 18 Novices, 75 Junior Novices. The Toronto District consists of 17 communities and a total of 8,034 students.
