September 1934

potomac riverJunior Novices from the La Salle Hall Junior Novitiate (Ammendale, MD) took a long boat ride down the Potomac River on August 8, 1934. The boat left Washington, D.C. at 9 a.m. and passed by Mount Vernon. At Chapel Point (MD), the boat docked for two hours so the boys could swim and enjoy the amusement park there. They returned to Washington in the early evening.

December 1934

The Junior Novices from the Junior Novitiate at Barrytown were given a two-day visit of New York during which time they saw a baseball game. Later, on November 3, they watched the traditional football classic between C.C.N.Y. and Manhattan College.

Historic Toronto District

cardinal james mcguiganCardinal James McGuigan, Archbishop of Regina (Saskatchewan), was named as the new Archbishop of Toronto. On March 20, 1935, he arrived at Toronto and was met at Union Station there by the cadets of De La Salle “Oaklands.” The same cadets were honored to lead the procession which Cardinal McGuigan made from the train station to his new residence.
