PA Governor Receives Honorary Degree

1935 La Salle College CommencementAt the 72nd Commencement of La Salle College on June 6, 1935, the Governor of Pennsylvania, George H. Earle, will receive an Honorary Degree.

 

Commencement HandoutCardinal Dennis Dougherty will preside, with the address to the graduates to be given by a La Salle alumnus who is a member of Congress, Representative J. Burrwood Daly.

La Salle College Debates Supreme

The La Salle College debating team retained their title as champions of the Philadelphia Intercollegiate Debating League. The team scored victories over Penn, Temple, Villanova, Johns Hopkins, Catholic University, and Rosemont.

St. John's College HS Cadets Guard World Peace

At a recent Triduum (three days) of Prayer for World Peace held at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, the Cadets of St. John’s College HS formed the guard of honor for the Apostolic Delegate.

Manhattan College 3rd Annual Camps Day

Manhattan College celebrated its third annual Campus Day, sponsored by the Junior Class, on May 5, 1935. Demonstrations were given in science labs, the Manhattan Orchestra and the Band both entertained the guests, and Benediction was held in the chapel.

St. Gabriel's School 1st Place

Based upon the quarterly examinations, St. Gabriel’s School (East 36th Street) assumed first place among all Lasallian grade schools in the Archdiocese with a general average of 94%.

Elocution Contest Finals

In the finals of the elocution contest of Lasallian parochial schools in Greater New York at De La Salle Institute, students from St. Raymond’s (The Bronx), St. Cecilia’s (Brooklyn), and Holy Name placed first, second and third, respectively.

Public Speaking Finals

In the finals of the public speaking contest among Lasallian high schools in New York State and New England, at Manhattan College, the orators from CBA (Albany), St. Augustine’s HS (Brooklyn), and De La Salle Institute (NYC) finished first, second and third, respectively.

Summer Program Starts

On July 8, 1935, the summer program began at St. John’s Training School (Toronto). Br. Laurent instructs the Indian Club drill, while Br. Michael teaches the Danish drill and Br. Harold instructs the harmonica players.
