Dr. Martin Luther King in Philly -- La Salle Involvement Encouraged

February brings us Black History Month, and an appropriate image comes from the first page of the September 30, 1966, issue of the weekly La Salle Collegian.

Although Dr. King never visited La Salle College (now University), he was scheduled to speak at a rally at the Philadelphia Arena (46th and Market Streets) on October 9 of that year. The rally was endorsed by numerous civic and religious officials, including the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and the young men of La Salle College were among those who were encouraged to attend.

The sketch of Dr. King was drawn by Steve Singer, the Managing Editor of the La Salle Collegian.
