Volunteerism: La Salle Academy Providence
Lasallian Youth Collecting Used Phones
La Salle Academy’s Lasallian Youth have been collecting used cell phones as part of the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program. The Program distributes the refurbished phones to families in crisis and provides financial grants to non-profit organizations that support victims of domestic violence or provide education in the community. Phone recycling also helps the environment!
Social Concerns Group Plays Santa
Coordinated by the La Salle Social Concerns Group, each La Salle Academy homeroom "adopted" a family in need during the Christmas holiday. Gifts were bought, wrapped, and delivered to five different agencies working with these families. 34 families were adopted, some of which have as many as nine members, and some families living in homeless shelters. In total there were more than 100 large (30 gal. size) bags of presents!
La Salle Academy’s Lasallian Youth Host Seniors
Lasallian Youth served guests from Courtland Place in Greenville, Rhode Island a beautifully prepared chicken dinner in the school cafeteria that had been transformed into a Christmas experience. The students conducted a sing-a-long of favorite Christmas songs while serving homemade desserts to the guests.
The Courtland Place Seniors were also hosted by Bro. Michael Mc Kenery, President of La Salle Academy to the opening night of the school musical Hello Dolly after dinner.
The guests joined in singing and offering lines to the play. It was a wonderful night,” concluded Mr. Haynes, Director of Fine Arts. “This is what our Lasallian Mission is all about.”
