Volunteerism: San Miguel Providence
Commissioning
Three eighth-graders and five seventh-graders were commissioned into the Lasallian Youth program at The San Miguel School on November 3.
The group was commissioned by sixth-grade teacher Sarah Laitinen, who joins with fifth-grade teacher Karen Carty in moderating the program at San Miguel. Assisting in the ceremony was Bro. Frederick Mueller, Lasallian Coordinator at La Salle Academy, and Maryann Donohue-Lynch, La Salle's Campus Minister.
Lasallian Youth are dedicated to enriching their own experience of the Lasallian charism through immersion in the pillars of faith, community, and service. The group participates in a variety of service projects throughout the year, seeking to build community. San Miguel's Lasallian Youth group joins thousands of other groups worldwide in continuing the tradition and work of St. John Baptist de La Salle.
Winter Awards
Nearly 200 family members, Board members, student sponsors, and mentors of The San Miguel School of Providence attended the school’s Winter Awards Luncheon on December 11, celebrating student accomplishments from the first trimester.
The afternoon kicked off with a Christmas performance by the all-school San Miguel Chorus. The program also featured speeches given by representatives from each grade, reflecting on their individual experiences and memories made as San Miguel students.
Students were recognized in the areas of effort, improvement, sportsmanship, and attendance, and special recognition was given to boys who excelled in art, writing, public speaking, and “birding.” First trimester “Miguel Men of the Week” and Honor Roll recipients were also applauded.
A special presentation was made at the event to seventh-grade teacher, Marilyn Wentworth, recognizing the school’s “Bird Goddess” for her ten years of service to the school. Marilyn’s tenure at San Miguel makes her the longest-serving teacher in any of the Miguel Schools across the country.
