Volunteerism: St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute
Food Basket
SJCI kicked-off its 39th Annual Food Basket on November 23rd, with a goal of collecting 50,000 non-perishable food items through December. The donations were distributed to the Warming House in Olean, and several other Buffalo-area soup kitchens that are chosen by the students.
St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute is proud of this giving tradition, established 39 years ago by now-retired faculty member, Charles Ende. Faculty directors Martin Fedchak, Dcn. Thaddeus Pijacki, and Anthony Shilen emphasize that the Food Basket is a student-run program. Having boxes donated, loading the trucks that take the food to Olean, and rising very early to open the donation center is the sole responsibility of the students.
Swing Choir
More than 140 students who participate in Swing Choir, Varsity Singers, Glee Club and the Jazz Lab Band each year donated their time and talent to bring others some cheer this Holiday season. Here, the St. Joe's Swing Choir sings for Camp Good Days in December.
