By Baptism we are brothers and sisters. No boundaries separate us.

2. Twinning fosters an understanding of other cultures, customs and viewpoints.

All cultures are rich in different ways. We have much to learn from one another about life, peace, happiness.

3. Part of being a good Catholic is helping others improve the quality of their lives.

We have many resources in the United States and Canada that are not even available to the most hardworking members of developing countries e.g. medicine and health care, safe food and drinking water, an education.

4. Gratitude is the natural reaction of a person aware of his or her own blessings.

Gratitude is a Christian characteristic. The really graced moment comes when we realize that we haven't earned the best things about our life.

5. Twinning develops responsibility.

As members of one family, citizens of the same world, we need to take care of each other and the world we live in. Coming from the richest countries in the world we have great response ability.

6. Giving builds character.

Giving time and effort and money usually does more for the one giving than the recipient. The act of giving says that I have enough self respect to know that I don't need things to make me happy. I can give to you and not lose anything I really need.

Stewardship is honesty. We don't really own anything or anyone. We are merely caretakers of the planet and each other.

8. Twinning promotes global awareness.

What we do in this region of the world has an effect on other people around the world. We care for the environment because we share the world. We are beginning to understand what it means to be a global citizen.

9. Twinning builds respect.

Good relationships are built on respect. We learn to trust by trusting. We learn to have respect for others by showing them who we are and allowing them to learn about us.

10. Twinning is Lasallian.

We are following in the footsteps of a man who saw the need to reach across barriers of social status, poverty, and inequality to help those who could not help themselves. And as followers of Jesus, we join De La Salle and all our Christian brothers and sisters is lending our voice and our time and our energy to make life better for those who cannot do it by themselves.
