About the School
St. Paul Secondary School is located in the far north district of Marsabit in Kenya. The school was established in 1990 and has an enrollment of 190 students who are all nomads from the frontier districts of Marsabit, Moyale and Samburu. The school is under the management of the Catholic Bishop of Marsabit and run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of Kenya. The students pay a minimum school fee, which supports less than 50 percent of the running cost of running the school. The Bishop subsidizes the school with outside help and contributions from people in the area as well. In 2006, St. Paul recorded its highest scores in the national exams, with a mean grade of 8.35. It ranked 96 in Kenya which has about 5,000 secondary schools. In the private category St. Paul ranked 28 and number one in the Marsabit District.
How your contributions are used
- new basketball court (the school’s basketball team is the district champion in basketball)
- tuition program for 12th grade students who take their national exams in October and November
- sponsorship of eight students during vacation
- new textbooks for students under the new curriculum
- new fuel efficient generator to light up the school and pump water from a 60-foot borehole
- renovation of staff houses and student dormitories
