Twinning
Dear Lasallians, Over the last 18 years, the students in Lasallian schools in the United States and the Lwanga District in Africa have partnered in the Twinning Program. The solidarity that has resulted from this partnership has brought Lasallian youth from these two continents together as brothers and sisters and has contributed significantly to the maintenance and growth of Lasallian schools in Africa. Twinning allows us to make diversity and globalization a lived reality in our schools. Our Region’s commitment of support to the Lwanga District schools is essential to keeping the Lasallian Mission in Africa strong and vibrant. Brother Alvaro, the Superior General of the Brothers, frequently reminds us that as Lasallians, no one is too rich to receive and no one is too poor to give. As important as financial assistance is necessary and appreciated, the growth in communication and the sharing of information between twin schools has been commendable. Lasallian students in North America are learning more about the life of young people in Africa and the great needs of that continent. At the same time, our African students and teachers are becoming good stewards of the resources they receive and are beginning to follow your example by assisting their less fortunate brothers and sisters in neighboring villages and towns. Twinning has given participants in the program a stronger sense of compassion and stewardship, in addition to a greater awareness of the worldwide Lasallian Family. Let us continue to deepen the bond with our African counterparts and to help empower them towards the road to self-sufficiency. Brother Robert Schieler, FSC Regional Councilor |
