The Rhode Island Lasallian Association Group members together commit themselves to the mission
10/30/11 – Providence, RI – On Wednesday evening, October 30th, 42 members of the Rhode Island Lasallian Association Group (RILAG) gathered for their annual Commissioning Service at the La Salle Academy (Providence) Brothers’ Chapel and Residence. RILAG has membership from the five Lasallian schools/agencies in the Rhode Island area (La Salle Academy, Ocean Tides, Saint Raphael Academy, The San Miguel School, and Tides Family Services), as well as from Christian Brothers’ Center.
Brother Charles Kitson, FSC, Auxiliary Visitor of DENA and one of the founding members of RILAG, presided over the Commissioning and offered a reflection on association for the membership. He traced the history of the group using the Emmaus story as a starting point and noted how he brought the story of RILAG worldwide during the time he served as the International Secretary for the Lasallian Family. During the service, members committed themselves for another year to the Mission of RILAG and shared among themselves and with the entire group the meaning of their commitment at this point in their vocational journey.
The members then moved from the Chapel to the Fontaine Alumni Center where they enjoyed a catered meal through the kind generosity of La Salle Academy and the Brothers’ Community of La Salle Academy.
RILAG’s next event will be Christmas Caroling at the Jeanne Jugan Residence for the Elderly, conducted by the Little Sisters of the Poor, to be followed by a Christmas Social to be hosted by the St. Joseph Lasallian Community in Pawtucket. Other events include a presentation on human trafficking, a Lenten Evening of Prayer, and our annual gathering with Lasallian Youth.
