St. Gabriel’s Hall – Audubon, PA
In an institute such as Saint Gabriel’s Hall (SGH), a residential program in Audubon, PA for troubled youth that provides not only an education and career development, but also emotional therapy and counseling, progress only comes from a leader dedicated to living the principles of the Christian Brothers. For over forty years, Ralph Stinson has worked to honor the organization’s century spanning legacy by providing a safe haven for young men in need of guidance.
Stinson, who holds a Master of Social Work degree, has held a long list of roles, including Director of Treatment Service, Residential Manager, Director of Residential Service, and, his current position, Director. He is also Program Director for the Mitchell Program, an intensive 120 day treatment program that focuses on rehabilitation through horticulture, animal care, and the development of social and career skills by having students sell their own harvested food and handmade crafts.
Br. Brian Henderson, DENA, who had worked at St. Gabriel’s Hall for over 14 years, knew Stinson as a man possessing the leadership ability necessary to create an environment for learning and growth. “One truly works in a fraternal relationship when engaged with Ralph, as he appreciates keenly the humility necessary to perform the work well together and by association,” he said. Stinson recognizes the seriousness of the situations the students have endured and opts to speak to them and his colleagues plainly and openly, all while maintaining warmth, humor, and a tenacious optimism. Br. Henderson especially appreciated Stinson’s love of learning and “studious grasp of the big picture.” Stinson enjoys sharing his extensive wisdom with others and keeps his mind open to new ideas that can improve the school’s service to students, families, and staff. “The zeal Ralph possesses is real and inspiringly spirited,” said Br. Brian. “He is the very best of Lasallian tradition.”
