Advent. A time to engage in a trinity of action namely to pause, reflect, and discern God’s creative imagining for humanity as a whole and for us personally. Our Founder’s instruction of interior prayer — which is at the heart of the DENA Advent Retreat — calls us to reflect upon God’s Divine Providence in our lives, and discern the steps on our human journey.
The Church gifts us with the rhythm of a liturgical calendar to remind us that we live both a Chronos and Kairos existence. In the midst of the events of our time; faced with the coronavirus pandemic, the work for racial justice, care of God’s creation, and the political uncertainty in our nation, as people of faith we welcome the opportunity to ponder the ongoing movements of salvation history and their meaning in our contemporary setting.
This year, we take as our inspiration Lasallian Reflection 6: You Are Part of the Miracle! One definition of the word miracle is an amazing product or achievement or an outstanding example of something. For over 300 years, Lasallians have delivered the miracle of providing a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor. Today, in over 80 countries worldwide miracles continue to occur every day!
In the Incarnation, we believe, God became human to show us how to be human. During this Advent season may each one of us pause to reflect upon the meaning of this belief in our life and discern how we are to live in that reality.
New this year to our Advent Retreat are the Sunday Gospel Reflections by students from La Salle Insitute, Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, La Salle Academy, Providence, and La Salle College High School. We are most appreciative to the students and their adult mentors for these inspiring reflections. Additionally, in response to the current food insecurities highlighted by the coronavirus pandemic, we are offering a Reverse Advent Calendar as a way of supporting our sisters and brothers in need.
Please spread the Good News on social media with the tag #LasallianAdvent — God bless.
