Come & Be
CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF TWINNING
June 6 – 14
You’re invited to celebrate the silver anniversary of the Twinning program!
The District of Eastern North America is pleased to offer an invitation to join a special delegation to the Lwanga District on the occasion of 25 years of Twinning.
The delegation will begin in Nairobi and have the opportunity to visit ministries in Kenya and Ethiopia.* If you are twinned with a ministry other than Kenya and Ethiopia, you are still welcome to come as our hope is that all Lwanga Heads of Ministries will join us in Nairobi for the celebration. If you are from another RELAN District, you are most welcome to join us on this wonderful celebratory trip to be with our fellow Lasallians as we celebrate 25 years of “together and by association.”

About the Twinning Program
Twinning is an initiative of the De La Salle Christian Brothers (Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools) that encourages Districts that are financially able to aid those most in need.
In the Lasallian Region of North America (RELAN), middle and secondary schools in United States and Toronto are twinned with 14 ministries in four countries in the Lwanga District of Africa: Kenya, Nigeria, Eritrea and Ethiopia. While the RELAN schools help support the Lwanga ministries financially, the students also build relationships as brothers and sisters in the Lasallian family to share challenges, accomplishments, stories and experiences.
Twinning is Together and by Association
The program began in 1995 in response to a call from the Institute to financially assist economically poor Districts and new Districts that were forming. A goal was to help these Districts achieve financial self-sufficiency in the long term. Since 1995, the District of Lwanga has grown to be inclusive of new ministries and new projects that make the schools self-sufficient in the areas of food production and access to clean water.
Lwanga Lasallians are currently enrolled in and graduates of the Buttimer Institute, participated in the International Women’s Symposium in New Zealand (2017), attended the Association gathering held in Rome in the fall of 2019 and hosted the first CIL outside of Rome at the Christian Brothers Center in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2018.
DENA: Twinning Goes Beyond our Borders
Since the beginning of DENA, the relationship between our two Districts continued to deepen based upon the foundation that was created at the beginning of the Lwanga District with the Brothers.
DENA has been pleased on multiple occasions to host Brother Ghebreyesus Habte, Lwanga Visitor to visit our schools. Additionally, DENA has sponsored 3 “Come and Be” visits to Kenya, DENA Brothers and Staff have staffed Lwanga ministries, provided retreats and formation opportunities, offered online religious formation courses, CTIE (Christ the Teacher Institute) in Nairobi holds a special place in our DENA mission, and the DENA sponsored Institute program: Lasallian Women of Hope was launched at Mwagnaza College in Kenya. Several of our DENA ministries have visited their Lwanga twin school, ministries have SKYPED and exchanged letters among the students.
