The annual Brother Luke Salm, FSC Religious Education Workshop is scheduled 2-4 November 2025, at Bon Secours Retreat and Conference Center, near Baltimore, Maryland. Our working theme is “Educate by Evangelizing and Evangelize by Educating.” Registration information is here. No registration fee; only cost for your ministry is transportation. Towards the end of October, the final workshop itinerary will be shared. In addition to your participation, you are welcome to invite another religion teacher, especially a newer teacher, to join you.
In the last two years, we have prioritized the workshop for religion department chairs, in addition to other religion teachers. This year campus ministers are also invited to participate in the workshop. The itinerary will include joint sessions for both religion teachers and campus ministers, as well as separate sessions for the two clusters of educators. We continue to build up Luke Salm as a serious space providing pedagogical and theological resources to advance quality religious instruction and evangelization. More so, the workshop aims to foster association among an important constituency within the Lasallian mission field.
The 46th General Chapter of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (2022) calls for a renewed attention to religious instruction and evangelization in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council and long Lasallian history and common heritage.
The keynote presenter is Hosffman Ospino, Ph.D, a professor of theology and religious education, in the Clough School of Theology and Ministry, Boston College. He is a longtime friend of the Lasallian world. He was the primary presenter for the fourth iteration of the Luke Salm Workshop; he teaches a graduate course on the Spiritual Sources of Christian Education which spotlights John Baptist de La Salle, and he was the advisor for a dissertation on Lasallian Mysticism and Teaching for Children’s Liberation. More information about Ospino at this link.
Remember, 2025 is designated as the Year of Lasallian Spirituality and the Lasallian Year of Catechesis. Next month Brothers and Lasallian Partners from around the world will gather at the La Salle Generalate in Rome for a seminar on catechesis facilitated by the Office for Lasallian Heritage and Resources. Brother Ernest will accompany a small DENA delegation to the seminar, and we will offer insights from this experience at the November workshop.
