A New Light, A Shared Horizon:

On January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, the Lasallian mission in Quebec entered a new chapter as the District of Francophone Canada officially became the Quebec Sector of the District of Eastern North America (DENA). Marked by a feast centered on revelation, light, and unity, the moment reflects a deepening communion within the District and a renewed commitment to shared mission.

The Lasallian presence in Quebec began in 1837 with the arrival of the first Brothers in Montréal. From the very beginning, the mission responded to the needs of the time—offering stability, formation, and hope through education rooted in faith and community. Over generations, Lasallian schools and ministries helped shape the social, cultural, and spiritual life of Quebec.

As Quebec’s educational and social landscape evolved, particularly during the mid-20th century, the Lasallian mission adapted. While many traditional school structures changed, the spirit of the mission endured. Brothers and lay partners continued to accompany young people—especially those most in need—through retreat centers, camps, youth ministries, and community-based works.

Today, the Quebec Sector is home to vibrant ministries that serve thousands of young people and families each year. These works remain grounded in the Lasallian commitment to human dignity, faith formation, and hope, while responding creatively to the needs of today’s world.

The integration of the Quebec Sector into DENA is not an ending, but a widening of horizons. It affirms a shared mission across cultures, languages, and geographies, and invites deeper collaboration among Brothers and partners throughout the District.

To mark this moment, DENA has released an introductory video highlighting the Lasallian mission in Quebec today—its ministries, its people, and its continued response to the needs of young people.
