A poised and thoughtful young man, Jonathan Evans recently graduated from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo NY. He will attend Morehouse College in the fall of 2025. During his time at St. Joe’s, Jonathan stood out for his leadership, his commitment to community service, and his desire to create a more just and compassionate world.
Jonathan served as a student leader in the school’s Equity & Justice Club. His efforts to encourage dialogue and awareness earned him recognition throughout the school community. He was also interviewed on a news segment for Black History Month, where he spoke about the importance of lifting up others.
Jonathan’s service efforts have made a lasting impact across Buffalo. He volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association, the African American Veterans Monument, St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy, and in the East Buffalo community following the tragic 2022 mass shooting. He has been recognized for his service receiving the Judge Hugh B. Scott Inspiring Youth Community Service Award and the Junior Quarterback Award from the Buffalo Bills for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to positive change. Jonathan also represented his school in the Rites of Passage Ceremony, a significant part of the Beautillion program, which provides young African American men with mentorship, personal development opportunities, and cultural enrichment.
Jonathan’s experience at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute was made possible through scholarship support from the St. John Baptist de La Salle Fund. The opportunity to attend a Lasallian school helped him grow in faith, develop strong academic habits, and understand his responsibility to serve others.
As he prepares to begin his next chapter at Morehouse College, Jonathan carries with him the values he cultivated at St. Joe’s. He is grateful for the support he received and looks forward to continuing to lead and serve in the years ahead.
