Lasallian animators from ministries across the District of Eastern North America (DENA) gathered on March 5–6, 2026 in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, for the annual Animators Gathering. The two-day meeting brought together mission leaders from schools and ministries to reflect, share experiences, and strengthen collaboration in advancing Lasallian formation across the District.
The gathering began with participants arriving and reconnecting with colleagues from across DENA. Following introductions, Justin Martineau, Associate Director for the Office for Mission & Ministry, led the first session of the workshop, presenting highlights from the Gilson Report and offering an overview of current formation efforts across the District. The presentation set the stage for meaningful table discussions, where participants reflected on the realities of formation in their respective ministries. Conversations focused on themes such as the need for more local formation opportunities, the importance of tailoring formation programs to different ministry contexts, and the challenge of balancing formation initiatives with the daily responsibilities of educators and ministry leaders.
Participants also explored how collaboration among ministries can strengthen formation efforts. Through guided discussions and interactive activities, animators shared experiences, strategies, and practical insights from their local communities. These exchanges underscored the importance of continuing to support one another as a network committed to sustaining and deepening the Lasallian mission.
The day concluded with participants gathering for dinner at Pazzo MMX, providing another opportunity to continue conversations and strengthen relationships among the animators.
The second day began with morning prayer and remarks from Brother Robert Schaefer, FSC, Visitor of the District of Eastern North America. In his message to the group, Brother Bob expressed his appreciation for the dedication of the animators and affirmed the essential role they play in sustaining the Lasallian mission within their ministries.
Jim Logan, Director for the Office for Mission & Ministry then led a session focused on ongoing formation initiatives in the District and upcoming programs designed to support mission leaders and educators. The session also highlighted opportunities for continued engagement through District formation programs and collaborative initiatives among ministries.
The gathering also featured a presentation by Barbara Chesnik of La Salle College High School in Philadelphia, PA, who shared how her school has developed and implemented a local formation plan. Her presentation offered practical insights and examples that participants could consider adapting within their own ministries.
Throughout the two days, animators engaged in thoughtful dialogue about the evolving needs of Lasallian formation and the importance of supporting educators and staff in living out the Lasallian mission. The gathering concluded with closing remarks from Justin, encouraging participants to remain connected, continue sharing resources, and support one another in their ongoing work.
The 2026 Animators Gathering reaffirmed the importance of collaboration and shared reflection among Lasallian animators across the District. As participants returned to their ministries, they carried with them renewed energy, practical insights, and a strengthened commitment to fostering the Lasallian mission in their communities.
