Athletic Directors Workshop Brings Lasallian Leaders Together in Towson, MD

Athletic directors, coaches, and athletic staff from Lasallian ministries across the District of Eastern North America (DENA) gathered on April 16-17, 2026, at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, MD for the 2026 Athletic Directors Workshop. The annual gathering created space for professional renewal, collaboration, and reflection rooted in the Lasallian mission.

Representatives from across the District came together to share experiences, strengthen relationships, and explore how athletics can continue to serve as an important pathway for student formation, belonging, and community within Lasallian schools. The workshop also provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the evolving realities facing athletic programs today while remaining grounded in mission.

The program opened with prayer inspired by the spirituality of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and the theme of leadership through service. Participants were invited to reflect on the role athletics plays in forming young people in mind, body, and spirit.

A featured keynote session, “Athletics as Part of the Lasallian Mission: How Does It Fit?”, was delivered by Brother John Kane, President of Calvert Hall College High School. Drawing from decades of experience in Catholic education and athletics, Brother John spoke about building cultures of care, forming student-athletes through values-based leadership, and ensuring athletics remains connected to the wider educational mission of Lasallian schools.

The second day included a keynote presentation on “Name, Image, and Likeness” led by Carly Kastens, Director in the College division of Altius Sports Partners. Her session explored the changing collegiate athletics landscape and encouraged participants to consider how emerging NIL realities may shape conversations in high school athletics.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in table conversations and peer dialogue on topics including mission-centered coaching culture, student-athlete wellbeing, parent and spectator culture, fundraising, scheduling, technology, communications, and the role of athletics in advancing Lasallian identity. These sessions allowed attendees to share best practices and learn from one another’s experiences.

Participants also toured the athletic facilities at Calvert Hall and gathered socially for an evening reception and dinner, further strengthening the bonds of association among Lasallian educators and leaders.

As the workshop concluded, participants returned to their ministries with renewed energy, practical insights, and a deeper commitment to ensuring athletics remains a meaningful expression of the Lasallian mission across DENA.

The District extends its gratitude to Calvert Hall College High School for hosting the workshop and to all presenters and participants whose dedication continues to support young people through athletics and mission.
