Reimagining a Connected Future

District Office of Communications Promotes Mission on Multiple Platforms

In the summer of 2022, delegates from every Lasallian District in the eighty countries where the Brothers serve, gathered in Rome for the 46th General Chapter to discuss the direction of the worldwide Institute of Brothers of the Christian Schools. One theme that emerged from the Chapter was to engage the entire Lasallian World in the concept that we are “One La Salle”, keeping our focus on the Founder’s vision and the Gospel message.

To follow through on this idea, Br. Robert Schaefer, FSC Provincial/Visitor and his leadership team set the Office of Communications on a bold new path, to share the message of “One La Salle” within the District of Eastern North America (DENA) and beyond, in order to enable more Lasallians to engage meaningfully in the Lasallian mission of education. At the core of this philosophy is an understanding of the interconnected nature of our globalized world. The Communications team must recognize the dynamic needs of our Lasallian family in this contemporary world, and craft strategies that not only adapt to but also shape DENA’s educational landscape.

In 2023, Brother Robert named Mr. Keane Palatino as District Director of Communications to lead this high priority effort. Keane joined DENA after seven years as International Coordinator of Young Lasallians. During that time, he helped to establish an online global community of international technology-focused young Lasallians who joined Keane in supporting the global Lasallian mission. The group, known as LS Media, offers their professional knowledge in digital production and social media for this purpose.

With the support of LS Media, the Communications office led by Keane strategically employs resourceful production techniques while leveraging technology and creative methodologies. The office works actively to strengthen community involvement by sharing stories that resonate with diverse audiences. They also provide support for all the programs, meetings, and events that are developed and run by the Brothers’ District office. Recognizing that effective communication is the backbone of successful initiatives, the department aligns its strategies with the specific needs of each endeavor. This ensures a cohesive and well-coordinated approach, intended to enhance the overall participant experience and to also contribute to the successful impact and longevity of these programs. By becoming strategic partners in project implementation, the Communications Office’s objective is to improve the vitality of the Lasallian educational mission through improved engagement and program impact.

Effective promotion of workshops and events will encourage even wider participation by our Lasallian Family.

Communications efforts are custom designed for the needs of each specific initiative or event. The latest techniques are used for electronic announcements and invitations, audio and/or video recording, online streaming, website placement, social media updates, and more. The Communications team is also dedicated to providing technical communications support for the efficiency of District administrative team meetings such as Mission Assembly, District Council, and Mission Executive Council. The goal is to expand the awareness of, and accessibility to, Lasallian spirituality programs, training, retreats and group workshops.

The plan to broaden the District’s communication reach also propels initiatives like “DENA Connect” electronic mailers, and other online platforms. These serve as the bridge that connects individuals and communities beyond geographical boundaries, fostering inclusivity, collaboration, and the free exchange of ideas. By strengthening the Lasallian network, diverse perspectives can converge and collaboration can happen. Ultimately, this will increase our effectiveness as a District in reaching and teaching our entire Lasallian family in the educational and spiritual vision of our Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle.

Realizing that for some in our Lasallian family, our digital presence is the face of the Brothers, this office aims to enhance the online user experience and increase functionality. This priority goes beyond routine posting; it involves employing innovative social media strategies to provide information and engage with the community, promoting online conversations and interactions. The reimagined communication philosophy is not just a conceptual shift; it signifies a strategic evolution. By aligning priorities with the changing dynamics of the digital age, the Communications office is laying the foundation for a more connected, engaged, and empowered Lasallian community.

The Office of Communications supports, documents, and preserves many District programs and meetings.

Through all of these improvements and expansions, our goal is to let the Lasallian mission shine through, embracing the challenges of tomorrow.

If you wish to stay informed about the exciting developments and collaborative initiatives, the department encourages all Lasallians to actively engage with the rich content available within DENA Connect, and discover the latest updates, insightful discussions, and opportunities to contribute to our collective journey.
